  • The summer sessions at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, which run for two six-week periods each, are open to North American graduate and advanced undergraduate students and to high school and college instructors of classics and related fields. In these sessions, the school condenses its academic-year program into an intensive introduction to the sites, museums, and monuments of Greece.

    Scholarships and Grants for Students Studying Religion and Theology

    Scholarships and grants are open to members of the Archaeological Institute of America. The Asian Art and Religion Fellowship Program offered by the Asian Arts Council focuses on the relationship between the artistic and religious traditions of Asia, and enables American scholars, specialists, and artists to conduct research and undertake projects in Asia involving the interdisciplinary analysis of religion and the arts.

    Up to five research fellowships or travel grants are awarded each year through this program. The Resident Scholars Program is normally for postdoctoral research.

    On occasion the admissions committee considers applications from persons with qualifications other than an already completed academic doctoral degree. Anyone without a doctorate is encouraged to explore the possibility of application first with the executive director. Resident scholars are expected to devote full time to their research projects as described in the applications. The Short-Term Residency Program is designed to accommodate people who can't find time for a semester stay, but who can get away for a three-week or longer commitment.

    Welcoming people with differing interests, backgrounds, and disciplines, the program provides for a variety of purposes, while still allowing individuals to take full advantage of the Institute experience. The selection process will be administered by the American Councils for International Education with awards approved by the U.

    Background The Sarah Pettit Fund was established in as a permanent endowment to honor and perpetuate the memory of lesbian activist Sarah Pettit, who earned her BA from Yale in She was for many years the editor-in-chief and vice president of OUT Magazine, which she co-founded in Click here for application and instructions for submission.     Selected fellows will receive small stipends and travel funding in addition to room and board for the week of the workshop.
